Bowls
The Club: Facilities: BowlsOur first bowling greens were laid in 1974 and first played on in 1976.
With four bowling greens of exceptional quality, one equipped with lights, Killarney Bowling Club has become the benchmark of bowling facilities for bowling clubs in the Gauteng district and further afield.
All four of our greens, surrounded by manicured gardens and banks of well tendered kikuyu grass, are currently graded B by the specialised grading team of the JBA.
Killarney is the only four green club in the district with a B grading on all four greens.
Grading of bowling greens is carried out every six months and can be compared to the grading of all other greens in the district by visiting the JBA website and following the link under technical committees marked grading 2010.
All four greens have built-in umbrella stands to accommodate large umbrellas for umpires or audience on hot days.
Our bowlers’ lounge aptly named THE KILLARNEY BOWL can accommodate up to 150 people comfortably and has open access to an adjoining bowlers’ bar and outdoor terrace.
An officials’ office opening onto the bowlers’ lounge houses literature pertaining to bowls, emergency oxygen kits, a first aid box, lightening detection device and a computer with software custom designed for tab allocations and tab-fee payments.
The bowls parking area can accommodate up to 60 cars and runs parallel to 3 of the 4 greens making access fast and simple.
