Bowls News - April / May 2010

It has been some time since the Club did a newsletter.   We used to have a monthly Club Magazine that was always well received by all members.

I would like to thank David Hirsch for having re-introduced a newsletter and also for his efforts in helping us get new members to join our club.  His initiative has helped the Bowls section getting new members.  We need new members joining all the time and I ask all our members to help by encouraging people to play bowls and bringing new members to us.

Regarding the subsidy, I ask all bowlers to please play tabs regularly to qualify for the subsidy

The latest on the bowls shirts is that we are getting final samples and will be placing the orders for the shirts later this month.  I ask all members who have not ordered shirts to please do so as soon as possible.

Louis has once again done well with our internal competitions. The portfolio of competition convener is an extremely difficult one. Please help him by putting your names on the holiday list if you are going to be away and try to get your game played before you go away and this will be a great help to him.

We have achieved well in external competitions as well as league. Congratulations to Ben Kassel who brought honor to the Club and himself when he was named Captain of the Provincial “B” team.
Tony Blackman’s team were the runners-up in the Wednesday Jack Rahn Plate.

Good bowling to our teams going to the nationals.  Alan Gordon, Ben Kassel, Larry Berman & Joe Dimant in Section 20 and Solly Solomon, Rodney Mel, Lucien Saltzman & Harold Gilchrest in Section 23. We hope you do very well and have a great time.

Once again we held our Easter weekend competition and this was a great success, a big thank you to Mervyn Datt.

Hunter’s Rest weekend get away is from 15 - 18 October.  Please diarize this and check the notice board with regard to making reservations.

Please note that we try extremely hard at all times to get all the correct information with regard to our members’ achievements, simchas, bereavements, get-well etc.   If we do leave out something I ask that you please bring this to my attention and it will be rectified and published in the next news letter and announced at a tab session

The bowls section wish the new caterers the very best of luck.
The Selwyn Segal Charity Day takes place on Sunday 25 July 2010. Please assist this major fundraiser by buying certificates.  We also need prizes, 4 of a kind.
