On Friday, 04 October the world lost a truly remarkable man. Richard passed away from a brain hematoma (bleed), most likely caused by high blood pressure. Richard’s final years had not been easy. Although seemingly in good health, the passing of his wife just two years prior took a big toll. His drive and determination were fuelled by his three beloved children. Richard worked two jobs in his effort to enable his two eldest to attend university, allowing his daughter to study her master’s degree in biomedical science and his son to study civil engineering full time.
Richard, in his efforts to support his family, turned to caddying at Killarney on weekends along with working full time as an administration clerk during the week. Around 8 months ago, Richard and I developed a really strong friendship and we worked together almost every Saturday morning since.
Richard told me on numerous occasions that his greatest source of pride was his children and their studies. He truly lived for being able to afford them every opportunity in life.
Our aim is to continue to give Richard’s children every opportunity he had wished for them. We have thus set up a Non-Profit Company called Richard Nyadzani NPC, with a strict mandate that will allocate all proceeds to the settling of educational related expenses that will arise as each child looks to complete their tertiary education. These include, shortfalls in NSFAS funding, textbooks, meal allowances and other expenses incurred by his children:
• Murendeni Herbet Nyadzani – 27 Years old (Third Year Civil Engineering – UJ).
• Luvhani Confidence Nyadzani- 23 years old (Master Student – VUT).
• Thendo Sharon Nyadzani – 17 years old (Matric, preliminary acceptance into UJ).
“It’s not enough to have lived. We should be determined to live for something. May I suggest that it be creating joy for others, sharing what we have for the betterment of personkind, bringing hope to the lost and love to the lonely.” ― Leo Buscaglia
